The Salty Dog was invented by George Jessel in 1952. George is the same individual that brought us the well known Bloody Mary cocktail. Given the date of the Salty Dog’s creation, we would not be surprised to find that the original called for vodka over gin.
Notes:
Light flavor of juniper and lightly tart fleshy grapefruit flavor.
This cocktail is said to have been invented in the 1920s. Vodka was not introduced into the United States until the 1930s so the original Sea Breeze wold have been designed with gin as the core spirit.
Notes:
A tart bite, mild sour with an off-dry finish; vodka does not play a big role.
The Shy Sour is a cross between a margarita and an amaretto sour -- designed by M. Carrie Allan
Notes:
Light sour with a touch of almond sweetness followed by a mild smoke and saline finish.
From Steve Crane at Kon-Tiki restaurant in the 1960s, a big drink, but a great drink!
This fantastic cocktail doesn’t have a rich deep history. We believe this was created (or at least documented) by Charles Phan’s Slanted Door.
Notes:
Floral forward herbal flavor, mid-palate citrus acidity, finishing of juniper, sweet herbaceous linger.
A cocktail with Campari that doesn't become aggressive like other campari drinks, not a ton of history on this baby but we'd put it into the Modern Classics, it needs more attention.
Notes:
A salty campari mild bitterness, tequila from start to finish with a tart dry finish.
